Social Impact Initiative | Aligned with SDG 3: Good Health and Well-Being
In line with its Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) framework and Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) commitments, Mercantile Investments supported the National Cancer Hospital (Apeksha Hospital), Maharagama, through the donation of bedsheets on 11 December 2025.
Based on stakeholder engagement with hospital staff, it was identified that bedsheets used following cancer surgeries are frequently exposed to blood and surgical fluids. Although routinely laundered, complete stain removal is not always achievable, which may affect hygiene standards and patient comfort. This initiative was undertaken to address this operational need and to support the hospital in maintaining appropriate hygiene conditions for patients undergoing treatment.
The initiative was approved and overseen by the Sustainable Governance Committee, chaired by the Chief Operating Officer, Mr. Laksanda Gunawardena, ensuring alignment with the Company’s sustainability strategy and governance practices.
The donation was formally handed over to Dr. B. I. Kurukulasuriya, Deputy Director of Apeksha Hospital. The distribution was facilitated by Mr. Manoj Siriwardena (Head of Sustainable Finance), Mr. Dinesh Senevirathne (Senior Regional Manager – R1), and Mr. Damith Madawa (Branch Manager), representing Mercantile Investments.
This initiative contributes to the Social pillar of ESG and aligns with Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) 3 – Good Health and Well-Being, by supporting patient welfare, strengthening hygiene standards, and contributing to the resilience of a key public healthcare institution.
